Spuds, have you been taking too many sips of grandpa's old cough medicine?
HMMMM, appears I have "Foot in mouth" again. I couldn't stand the thought of just guessing- Breathitt- pop 16,100, Lee pop 23,670. That idea didn't hold much water, did it? Another interesting note, federal spending in Breathitt in 2004 134,011,000 -in Lee 90,637,946. Census page for the data. census page

Officially retired
Midnights are sooooo good for sleeping. No sleep, no sleep- makes me even dumber than I really am.
Breathit would be the same size in Va as it is in KY , couldn't help that I can be an arse sometimes. My sister-in-law teaches at Breathit and I do believe the best I can remember their enrolments are about the same.

They have an enrollment of close to 600 students.
As a former player and assistant, I can say that alot of what has been said about LHS football here is true. Lee has waisted so much talent, both players and coaches, such as Patrick Stapleton, who should have started over either Ricket twin--he would actually hit the hole, and THEN shift gears--and coach Marcus MacClung.
You have to keep in mind that five high schools went into Lee High, and three of them did not have football programs--no one in Flatwoods or Keokee cares for football, those are basketball communities. Dryden doesnt send up too many boys either. Also, a lot of talent drains elsewhere outside of the county. Two former examples: Cagle Juhan (PV) and Kenny Bishop (Cove).
Lee High has never had solid community support either--presently there is no booster club, and the field house is a total wreck. (No one thought to check about the weight capacity of the rafters before moving the lifting equipment upstairs, so the second floor almost collapsed last Fall when off-season training began, lol.)
As for this year's team: I dont think last year's JV will improve things much. Too many central players were absent from lifting this summmer. Secondly, innumerable boys have quit in recent weeks--The 10th grade is so hyped that many boys fear they will lose their positions to underclassmen.
